The Voodoo

A documentary by Isaac Isitan
1991, 46 minutes

Religion or witchcraft? Cult or magic? Filmed in Montreal and Haïti, this documentary relates the history of the voodoo and explains its practices. It took two years to the director to gain the confidence of its followers and his patience obviously paid off. While avoiding the traps of sensationalism, THE VOODOO shows authentical ceremonies and what a zombi is really like.

The documentary reveals the insides of this religion, first as a system of ritual beliefs and practices, the as a social system looking after the psysical and mental well-being of people, as well as the enforcement of justice. Today in Haïti, the revival of voodoo stands as an affirmation of the Black soul and African roots of these people.
